VPI Product Reveil at Hi-Fi Sales

May 16, 2016 Mat and Harry Weisfeld (Photo Credits: Parttimeaudiophile.com)

Harry & Mat Weisfeld, the father/son team of VPI turntable fame, have developed a new speed controller with the assistance of their new Director of Electrical Engineering, Mike Bettinger. Their new controller is a significant improvement over their SDS speed controller that VPI has offered for years. Hi-Fi Sales Company will be the first to show it to the public!!!

VPI will be bringing their flagship table, the now legendary, Top Of The Line Avenger Direct. We will be able to compare our Avenger Reference Turntable (with the Mag Drive upgrade) powered by the new speed controller against the Avenger Direct. That’s right! We’ll be pitting THE state of the art Direct Drive turntable vs THE state of the art Belt Drive Turntable (with a cutting edge speed controller) to see who the king of speed stability really is. Even Vegas can’t handicap this match.

Patrick Mattucci from Hi-Fi Sales with a VPI Avenger

Additionally, we’ll be displaying the Ortofon VERTO Step Up Transformer and our new favorite cartridge- the Ortofon Royal N SPU low output moving coil. We love our Lehman Audio Decade phono preamp on “The Big Rig”, but we’ve recently experienced what a great SUT can do for any phono stage, regardless of price, and it’s magic!

So, you’ve got the Weisfeld Boys from New Jersey, the best turntables, speed controllers and record cleaning machines on the planet MADE in New Jersey, and the best showroom and staff in New Jersey, all lined up and ready to rock and roll on Friday May 20th at 2pm. Bring a record that really challenges the speed stability of any analog rig. And if you need us to clean a record for you, we’ll be happy to do that on our VPI record cleaning machine.

Please RSVP at your soonest convenience. We look forward to seeing each of you join Hi-Fi Sales Company in kicking off the summer fun. I hope you’re all getting ready to open up your windows, letting in the fresh air, putting on some great records and turning up the volume. It’s going to be a great summer!

Call 856.751.1100 and ask for Pat or Mike
or email [email protected] to RSVP

Patrick said he may be using the Ortofon Royal N SPU during some of this demo shootout. If so, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts. The Roayl cart is Hifi Sales favorite cartridge of late, and Patrick was recommending it for my upcoming VPI table. I cannot make the event, as I wish it was on a weekend.

I'm curious too. Sure David K. knows the cartridge pretty well.

I'll post pictures from the event and a short write up to the board hopefully Saturday. I'm keen to hear the two Avengers side by side. Last time I talked to HW, he said the belt was as close as he could get to the DD. But they will have identical A95s mounted in identical arms on the two tables. What I don't know is if the belt drive Avenger has the same new air suspension that the Avenger DD comes with.

And yes, I'll give a careful listen to the KO2s for you.

Do VPI now make an Avenger Direct drive?

                Price?

Yes, the DD Avengers are made to order and HW is making 2/month. I think the price tag is $40K and that comes with a new air suspension for the table. The DD motor is frightfully expensive. Harry was talking about making a DD motor with enough poles to run natively at 331/3 rpm but not sure if that is in this Avenger yet.

I posted elsewhere HW installing the first one in an audiobuddies place out in LI. Any other questions? I can ask HW tomorrow.

Myles I'd be interested in that ADS device and how it compares to the SDS as how does one know looking at the ADS what Freq is identifying. The SDS has a meter. Hum !

I think one of the touted benefits of the ADS is that it does not use any digital circuitry (no counters or display devices).
