  • Hi-End @ CES

Well, this probably doesn't bode well for smaller manufacturers.

Prospective Consumer Electronics Show attendees must really love punishment. Tooling around a Las Vegas convention center listening to awkward humans talk about how robots are going to put everybod…

Wow, I've been to Guangzhou Audio Show (biggest Chinese audio show) recently and the rate in a hotel where the show was - a 5star hotel was $100/night at the show time...

Nail on the coffin. It's as if the organizers want it to fail. Sad.

Maybe for home audiophile, but the show has always been about consumers electronics, TV, cell phones , home theater, techy stuff for cars to home automation and as it seems of late CAR stuff is getting larger each year. I missed last year and went the couple years before with a dealer friend in Daytona but was it interesting the noted highlights of the 2016 show taken from the CES site was: 4K Blu-ray, DTS Play-Fi, DTS:X and ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 speakers. In 2015 it was WIRELESS

So much for the audiophile stuff.

Actually I think one of the biggest growing areas is fitness tech gear. Y-U-G-E.

That's stupid rates alright--you can get good clean rooms for 1/10th of that--(even less)in the Hotel/Motel/ Apartments on Paradise which runs parallel to the Strip--just short stroll to

venues in the brisk dry LV winter sunshine!

Ha! Last I heard the room rates were around $400 a night at the Venetian.

CES has been circling the drain for years. That's why I gave up on CES three years ago. Munich is now the show.

That said, think that seems the worst case example. Sure they jack up room rates 2-4X normal for CES but sure one can find something cheaper.

Think smaller manufacturers fled CES years ago. Or at least since The Show closed its doors at The Flamingo.

With the advent of other technologies for companies to communicate with dealers and distributors, other shows, etc., CES is a relic of the past. Sadly.

Assuming that CES was the "business" show in the US, has RMAF taken up that function? Will another show pick up the slack? or are shows not needed for the business portion of the Hi-End any more?

Munich and either Shanghai or Tokyo seem to be the ones on the International scene. Does the US need a major business-oriented show or can manufacturers use the current regional show format.
