Is there where your replacement tubes for your ARC Ref 5SE just came from?

Yes sir Mark. I used all Sovtek 6H30 and a Tung Sol 6550. I had used the Sovteks in my VK50SE and really liked their balance. Same change in the REF5SE but better. The bottom octave now is explosive and deeper, the Sovteks have a little more air and sparkle to them. The original tubes had a little over 1500 hours so I think it was time.

I remember Kevin from the old Ferrarichat board. One of the nice things about the tubes he offers is that he is not just selling unobtanium vintage stuff, but sourcing good sounding tubes that don't require a mortgage. Not easy.

          +1

I've dealt with Kevin for 20 years and always been happy. He knows his tubes, what tubes work best in what equipment and is always helpful. You can get anything from new to many of the rarest NOS tubes. And Kevin is always travelling all over the world to find the best NOS tubes.

What I like is that he tempers the tubes before testing them too. (a tempered burn-in contributes to a longer tube life.) ARC, cj and others also do the same thing to the tubes they sell.

Plus he works with Herman (who is one of the premier dealers in Europe and was the person responsible for the Kiseki cartridges) over in Benelux and brings in Primaluna tube electronics.

MEP knows I wasn't a Kevy fan, he has the bedside manner of a prosecuting attorney...or at least that's how it felt on the phone. fast forward many years and I place an order and decide to pick it up since i'm local. Kevy gave me the nickel tour and I came away impressed. They actually have a live person grading small signal tubes over sennheiser cans - a thankless job for sure. The back room (his garage) was cookin' with kt120 in the test rig going through burn in. He's anal about QC and that's what brings me back, i've since purchased all my tubes there and his prices are more than competitive all things considered.

We have talked about that Rob. Uncle Kevin has no time for tire kickers who are trying to pick his brain on what the best tubes are for their particular application only to hang up and search the net for a better price minus the quality. Kevin has always been great to me.
