  • Hello from the NYC Metro Area

    Hi Everyone,

It is wonderful to be here! Most of you probably know me as Alpinist on Audio Shark and What's Best Forum and PlanarSpeakerFan on Audio Aficionado.

I've made some major changes to my two channel audio system in 2016, which a number of you have followed. My system currently includes an Esoteric K-01X Digital Player, Audio Research Reference 10 Preamp, Vandersteen M7-HPA Mono Amps, Vandersteen 7 MkII Speakers and Audioquest Wild Blue Yonder Cables.

I'm also an avid outdoorsman although I'm currently laid up with a broken shoulder, which is giving me a lot more listening time with the new system. I've been a hiker and mountaineer for 25 years and have been lucky enough to climb peaks on three continents. In recent years, I've gotten into ocean kayaking and nordic skiing. I also enjoy playing jazz guitar and listening to live jazz in NYC.

    Best,
    Ken

Thanks Myles! I've been lurking for a bit so I finally decided to join. You've got a great forum going here. I'm really enjoying the Vandy 7 amps and speakers. It took me a long time to get to this happy place.

          Best,
          Ken

Thanks, the Vandys sounded exceptional at RMAF. Richard never designs a dud. But he definitely went all out here. Are you thinking of adding the new subs?

Probably not, Myles. My listening room is not very big (21' x 17') and already has sufficient bass with the Vandy 7 MkII's built-in subwoofers. After the 11-band subwoofer equalization was completed, I would say the bass is just right.

              Ken

Looks like you already scaled some heights- never even knew Vandersteen made amplifiers, but I'm not as plugged into gear as many here. Shoulder injuries are painful- I'd like to say I'm an avid outdoorsman, but my wife says my idea of "roughing it" is not staying at a 4 Seasons. I've been a New Yorker since 1981. Am soon to be an ex-New Yorker. But, I guess some of it--the brusqueness, the fast patter, the impatience and the big heart concealed beneath a thin veneer of city critter, never really goes away. Welcome.
