  • An overdue hello!

My lurking days are over! Hello from Ontario, (that's Canada not the one in California). I could not believe how busy I've have been with only the time to read and not participate. I'm looking forward to participating and hopefully adding some worthwhile contributions to the site. I have a very strong analogue bias but I am not prejudiced!

Thanks. I would have responded sooner but I'm not familiar with the forum system. I am trying to catch up on notifications.

        Les,
Welcome to the forum, albeit a wee bit late. I to am new to this site but have loved every minute that I have spent since joining reading the sometime hilarious antics here in terms of poking fun at what we so love to do which is love music.
Depending on where you live in the great province of Ontario you may be close to one of the best Studer reel to reel techs on the planet in my estimation that is who lives in Pickering. Roger Ginsley is his name and a great guy. He is Dr. Ed Pongs recording engineer and they produce Ultra Analogue Recordings which are primarily classical recordings done in Dr. Pongs house believe it or not. I had the great fortune of being at Dr. Pongs house last February for one of those sessions which was just amazing to be part of. Anyway welcome and if you ever find yourself setting out for Alberta please send me a note and maybe we could get together and do what we love which is listen to great sounding music.

        Pete.

          Hi Pete,
Thanks for the western hospitality! I'll keep the tip on the Studer tech in mind in case I win something better in a lottery other than the occasional free ticket. I live in the Clarkson area of Mississauga. I own a pair of Technics 1500s and a pair of the 1700s tape decks as well all of which have been exceptionally trouble free. One of each has been modified to run through a Bottlehead Repro.
Unfortunately my lurking habits run quite deep so I don't post as much as I would like. I've found this forum does not have the insane drama common on some of the other audio orientated sites.
I haven't been out west for about ten years when my ex and I spent some time around Jasper and then we went up to Yellowknife. The blue skies which are incredible in northern Alberta are different from the ones in southern Ontario. Caught a sundog here around New Years which I thought only happened out your way. Super bright like a second sun with a vertical rainbow that went on forever. For part of my drive I had the sundog in my rear view mirror with a full moon in the afternoon sky ahead of me. As usual no camera!

          Hello Steve,
I'm in Mississauga which is just west of Toronto. Senators! I stopped being a Leafs fan during the Harold Ballard era because of management and not the team. I like to think it's my curse on the Leafs that will prevent them from winning another Stanley Cup. Even though I lived six blocks north of Maple Leaf Gardens for twenty years I would go to Buffalo to see a game. Tickets were much less expensive and good seats could be had.

The company I work for used to have an office in Mississauga! Been there many times back in the 80s and 90s, as I used to do all the technical training for our technicians and field reps. Last time I was in the Toronto area though was with our son's youth hockey team when he was 12 (about 12 years ago). I was the team manager and we were there for a holiday tournament. Had a good time. I was also at Maple Leaf Gardens for Mats Sundin's first game as a Leaf.
