  • Greetings from Sunny Florida

My name is Kirby. I've been hooked on audio since I built a Heathkit integrated tube amp in high school! I'm a biologist that went into education. I was a teacher, principal, and district supervisor. I got my 30 years in at a fairly young age. I am currently a teaching park ranger at The Narrows Environmental Center located on the Intracoastal Waterway in beautiful Largo Florida. I was drawn to your site for two reasons. First, I visited other sites but it seemed that almost every thread disintegrated into school boys arguing and fighting about everything. Now that I have more time I just want a relaxing peaceful place to hang out with some audio friends. Secondly while perusing your site I stumbled upon a thread by Steve Lefkowicz on affordable equipment. Low and behold there was a picture of my amazing Sound Dynamics 300ti's as well as the also amazing Tekton Lores. Both pairs of those speakers are here in my room as I write. I like RCA Living Stereo albums. Some of my fave artists are Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Melody Gardot, Steve Forbert, Mad. Peyroux, Stan Getz, and the list go's on and on. Probably 60/40 analog to digital.Looking forward to a great time here on this site. One last thing . Due to the humidity in Florida my midrange driver foam surrounds have turned to dust. I can't figure how to remove them from the cabinet. There are no screws on the front and seemingly access on the back panel. Was hoping a member might have experience replacing drivers on the ti's.

Welcome aboard! Too bad Largo is so far from Pompano Beach, as I'll be there for a week in April. I have never had the need to pull the drivers in my 300tis, but I know it must be doable, as surround replacements for those turn up on eBay all the time. Fortunately for me, the conditions out here in SoCal are such that even after 20 years, mine are still is very good condition. I wonder if the instructions for those foam replacement kits have instructions for how to remove the drivers.
