  • Hello from Houston

I have enjoyed music for most of the last fifty years trying to attend as many live performances as I possibly can, often at the Houston Symphony or the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. While I gravitate toward classical music and jazz I also listen to folk and rock as well as some country. While I spend more energy searching for collectable vinyl than pursuing equipment at this stage, I do like to read about new equipment, particularly comparisons.

My system consists of a Rockport turntable and Ortfon A90 cartridge, Ypsilon transformer and phonostage, Esoteric P02/D02 digital on Halcyonics bases, Einstein preamp, Yamaha CT7000 tuner, Audio Note Balanced Kegon amps, EMM Labs MTRX amps and Acapella Triolon speakers connected with Jorma Prime and Nordost Odin 2 cabling and various Stage 3 power cords and HB Marble PowerSlave distribution box. Add to this mix four dedicated lines and two dedicated 220 lines to feed the MTRX amps all equipped with Furutech plugs. The system is housed in a dedicated room 19' by 27' by 10' with oak floors and mahogany tough and groove walls except for one 27' masonry wall. The floor is covered by a large 16 ' by 21' antique Iranian carpet. there are also a smattering of tube traps and diffusors plced around the room.
Rockport Sirius turntable, Lyra Atlas SL cartridge, Audio Note M9 SE Phono stage, Audio Note M10 (Signature) linestage, EMM Labs TX2/DA2 digital, Audio Note Balanced Kegon amps, EMM Labs MTRX amps, Acapella Triolons, Jorma Prime and Odin 2 cables, Stage 3 Kraken power cords, HB Marble Powerslave, Finite Elemente Pagode Reference stands and Cerabases, Halcyonics active isolation bases, HRS Equipment stand, Stillpoints Ultra 6 footers, Furitech cable isolators and plugs, Loricraft and Audiodesk vinyl cleaners, Yamaha CT7000 Tuner.

Yay, it's Fred, my old Dagogo partner (or DaStopStop according to Albert). When are you coming to Albert's to drink his expensive booze? And when are you going to buy a decent turntable?

          Regards,
          Phillip Holmes

            Hi Fred,

Hope all is well! Saw Jim L. a few weeks ago -- drove to the SoCal CanJam with a couple of people.

I still remember Fred's thoughtful response to me back in 2006 when I was asking the question on A-Gon whether to transition from my Crosby Quads to horns.

I retired at the end of 2014 after almost 34 years at BP only to shortly thereafter be approached by another oil company. After a rather lengthy
negotiation, I agreed to work for them as a consultant and have been happy thus far. This allows me to spend time with my children and grandchildren and to do some travelling as ell as listen to music and attend performances of the Houston Symphony. So yes, I am happy. Thanks for asking as I think that we sometime take these things for granted.
