I have some of the usual suspects like the Bill Berry but here's one I picked up over the weekend. Pretty interesting album and awesome fidelity. Dave Brubeck performing with his sons - one of which plays a variety of keyboards. Its actually kind of...proggy.

I want to thank you, the last four would have been on my list plus another East Wind Direct to Disc, L.A. Four's "Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte" and lastly but not least, Sheffield Labs bluegrass LP "Confederation".

An interesting thing about the album cover shows a special stylus tip with the twin conical points designed to track "negatives" like the "Father" and "Son" used in the LP plating process.

The Kamiya Appasionata is a true work out LP!

Too bad the first few tracks of FF had some portions that overloaded but I guess that's part of the charm of it. Err, maybe not but they sorted things out by the time the foot stomps came around.

Yeah that baffled me until you came over that day. I thought there was something wrong with my turntable.

You do remember that FF was actually a second recording date because FEDEX lost the package containing the original lacquers sent to be pressed in Germany. Maybe they were in a hurry and slammed out the second session and didn't notice that issue.

The Jun Fukamachi is another stunning D2D of piano music. its on the advant garde side of the musical spectrum and the dynamic presentation on this recording is from the TBM school, like mic'd 2" from the soundboard.

The funny this is back in the day I used to pass up so many D2D LPs in used record bins that went for cheap because they were like kryptonite to real 'music lovers.' Then there was the walk of shame...you know, when you're holding an armful of 'audiophile dreck' at the check out counter and the Jack Black wannabe (High Fidelity reference) stares back at you for three long seconds as if to say "Do you actually listen to this sh!t!?" In hindsight I should have swallowed my pride and bought every D2D I could find under $5. I got to the point I had like 5 copies of Flamenco Fever I paid less than ten bucks for and today...I don't even have a copy for myself.

I have a sealed copy of FF in my back-up collection, just because... FYI, Winston Ma produced a CD of the Fukamachi DD with two MC'sat Mike Lavigne's place. Interesting CD, but the DD is exceptional.

Ha, if we knew then what we know today....

I remember walking out of Princeton Records back in the early to mid-80s when they were still at their original place on the main drag and seeing boxes of Mercuries, RCAs, etc. that they couldn't give away. I remember one time buying a bunch of records and as I was leaving the store seeing a copy of Music of the Civil War on Mercury. I hemmed and hawed in car as to whether I should buy it and finally my ex- said just go in and buy it. I did and didn't regret it.

At the same time, I remember the shelves full of EMIs/Harmonia Mundis, etc that used to be at J&R Records or even Discophile on 8th St. in the Village (that were list price but the owner had everything and anything you want) that I passed up. Ughh....

Here's a few more, which IMO are worth seeking out...If you like Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio's work on TBM think "Midnight Sugar" These are his two D2D he did for Philips Japan. Before the internet these were rare finds, but they seem to turn up on ebay and discogs with frequent regularity.

I love the last one pictured by Tsuyoshi Yamamoto. I had to look along time to find one after mine had an accident.

Found these records a while back that apparently came from Jonas Miller's store in LA (M&K Records). They weren't D2D but came with some fascinating info about the M&K Reference Recordings including the interesting fact that the highly sought after Flamenco Fever was actually a retake because the lacquers from the original sessions were lost in shipping on the way to be plated. Wonder if that's the reason side one is essentially unplayable. Nice mention of Steve McCormack in the sheets too!

For Duke is still my favorite. Tower of Power on Sheffield Labs is really good. Real music by a great band vice an attempt at audio porn. It seems like most of my Sheffield Lab D2D are noisy and they arrived brand new to my house noisy. I have 3 copies of Amanda Broomstick and they are all noisy. Drum album is noisy too. I assume it was pressed on crappy vinyl by people who didn't care that much.

Never saw this Crystal Clear album before. Just picked up a copy from eBay. Sure it's elevator music but well recorded elevator music. And if not, only cost me $7.
