  • Mingus Ah Um

My MOFI Ultradisc reissue of this classic Mingus recording finally arrived this weekend (slowed by the Covid crisis ☹)!

Be interesting to compare to the ORG (2012) 45 rpm and Classic Records (2000) 33 rpm reissues. I don't have, unfortunately, the Classic 45 rpm reissue.

Interesting, my Ah Um arrived this past Spring...the ultradisc one-step is quite good, I have the Classic 45 somewhere and have not felt the urge to shoot them out.

i have the Classic Records 4 disc 45 set, a Classic Records 33 rpm pressing, plus a grey market 15ips, 1/4" tape, plus an early mono and early stereo pressing.

i think i'm set and really don't need another go on this one.

it's great music and worth making sure you have a good sounding example. but my money is better tasked for other recordings i don't have than counting angels on heads of pins.

I picked up a one step of Ah Um. I will be interested in Myles comparison. I have not had a chance to listen to my copy.

you'll be pleased. Ah Um is well-recorded to begin with, between different pressings the contrast is more like shades of gray. the Mofi One Step is my fave so far.
