I hear that Brothers In Arms is supposed to be excellent, despite the fact this was an original digital recording. I like it. I know Mark and Andre love it. If only I could share their text messages when they were playing BIA!
If I sound slightly hesitant, it's only that I wish MOFI did Communique or Making Movies first. "Once Upon a Time in the West" is one of my favorite Dire Straits songs!
Dire Straits was also awesome in concert. I saw them in 1988 (?) at the Brendan Byrne Arena at the Meadowlands. Blondie was the opening act but Debbie Harry had totally lost her voice at that point.Myles B. Astor, PhD, Administrator

I wonder if the new Rickie Lee Jones debut LP is better or worse than the one mofi did 35 years ago on jvc vinyl? cut by sr/2Last edited by JCOConnell; 03-25-2016, 10:56 AM.Magnepan 1.6 QR Loudspeakers, Amherst A-2000 MOSFET 150 WPC Amp, Conrad Johnson PV-10A Modded Tube Line & Phono Stage, Electrocompaniet MC II Class A Head Amp, Audio Technica AT-OC9XML Cart (Stereo) , Graham Engineering 2.2 Tonearm (Stereo) , VPI Aries-1 Turntable (Stereo) , VPI Clamp, Denon DL-102 Cart, (Mono) , Luxman Tonearm (Mono) , Kenwood KD-500 Turntable (Mono) , Michell Clamp, Marantz 20B Analog FM Tuner, Pioneer SACD, Onkyo DX-6800 CD Transport, DIY 24B/192K DAC, Sennheiser HD-650 Headphones, Headroom Max Balanced Headphone Amp, DIY Silver InterconnectsComment

There were at least two different original RLJ albums: an American and. UK release. I prefer the latter by a large margin. The US release is thin, hard and lacking info compare to the UK issue.
I also have the original MOFI release but don't remember it being in the best of shape. I picked it up used several years ago. Haven't compared the new and original though. -
I have a mint original (33) mfsl copy, never heard a us or uk stock copy. -
The 45RPM one is excellent but the original MoFi pressing is pressed on better vinyl. The 45RPM pressing has the added openness that 45rpm pressings have. If you have the original MoFI pressing the 45RPM pressing will sound just a tad better but with more vinyl noise. I have both and its a tossup.

note that the dcd lp is not a original master recording release, fidelity is questionableMagnepan 1.6 QR Loudspeakers, Amherst A-2000 MOSFET 150 WPC Amp, Conrad Johnson PV-10A Modded Tube Line & Phono Stage, Electrocompaniet MC II Class A Head Amp, Audio Technica AT-OC9XML Cart (Stereo) , Graham Engineering 2.2 Tonearm (Stereo) , VPI Aries-1 Turntable (Stereo) , VPI Clamp, Denon DL-102 Cart, (Mono) , Luxman Tonearm (Mono) , Kenwood KD-500 Turntable (Mono) , Michell Clamp, Marantz 20B Analog FM Tuner, Pioneer SACD, Onkyo DX-6800 CD Transport, DIY 24B/192K DAC, Sennheiser HD-650 Headphones, Headroom Max Balanced Headphone Amp, DIY Silver InterconnectsComment

I can't comment on Labyrinth, but if (like you say) it's superior than it must be outstanding, because Spiritchaser was no slouch. -
the silver mofi aren't guaranteed to be cut from the master tape, its a dub tape, presumably digital dub -
I'm not sure either DCD recording was analog to begin with though. Like the Cowboy Junkies about is a digital recording. But many times, for that type of music, digital sounds better. Plus it is just a good recording too.

The MoFi pressing of The Pretenders - Learning To Crawl (MFSL 1-339) is the best version of this LP that I have heard. I always liked the LP but each pressing that I heard was hard on the ears. The MoFi pressing fixes this problem and sounds very good.
The 45RPM versions of Billy Joel's 52nd street (MFSL 2-384), The Stranger (MFSL 2-383), An Innocent Man (MFSL 2-388) and Glass Houses (MFSL 2-385) are all excellent. I also have the 33RPM pressing of Billy Joel's - Piano Man (MFSL 1-349). Be aware that it is cut at a very low level and can cause noise issues on some systems.
The 33RPM MoFi of Santana Abraxas (MFSL 1-305) is good. The UD1S is better but the 33RPM is very good.
The 45 RPM of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (MFSL 2-417) is very good.
The Cars - The Cars (MFSL 1-274), The Cars - Shake It Up (MFSL 1-325) and The Cars - Heartbeat City (MFSL 1-442) are very good pressings. I prefer the Warner Pioneer pressing of Heartbeat City but the MoFi is good also.
The MoFi pressing of Lyrnyrd Skynyrd Pronounced (MFSL 1-400) is pretty good but the pressing to have of this LP is the new 45RPM Analogue Productions release (AAPP 363-45). The MoFi is decent clean pressing but they managed to clean up the sound on the Analogue Productions pressing and create a much better LP.
I have more but those are the ones that come to mind.

I have the most recent 45 RPM releases of RIckie Lee Jones s/t, the Grateful Dead Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, also much of the 33.33 Miles Davis recent reissues, A tribute to Jack Johnson, In a Silent Way, Nefertiti, Round About Midnight, etc, have all proven to be quite nice. Understand, I do not have pristine original copies of the MD recordings so I have not so much to really compare to and these have been very well received. It appears they have been well reviewed by other listeners too.
Love the Garcia/Grisman stuff and DCD is extraordinary. I have a number of old JVC vinyl pressings from them that I’m still quite fond off.Living-Listening room 1340sq ft and modestly lively: Brinkmann Balance w/RöNT II PS, HRS, Reed P3-12 >Miyajima Zero, Graham Phantom III >DynaVector Te Kaitora Rua, Avid Acutus SP, SME V w/Kondo fairyhair silver litz >Lyra Kleos, Nakamichi ZX-7, SCD-XA5400ES, Aesthetix Rhea Signatures, Nordost TYR Norse 2 phono cable and interconnects, Zavfino 1877PHONO Graphene Gold Rush phono cable, Silent Source Music Ref/Shunyata Denali 6000S v2(x2), Alpha & Delta XC v2, Venom NR, CX Anaconda/Elrod EPS-3 Sign mains, Atma-Sphere MP1 3.3 & MA1 Mk.3.3 OTL Silver Edition monoblocks, Classic Audio T3.4 full voice-coiled, Yamamoto racks, SMARTractor. 57 to 64 valves between the source and the speakers. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water One-Step 180g 45RPM 2LP Box Set
My two copies arrived yesterday but I haven't played it yet. Has anyone heard it ? Anything special ?1 PhotoComment

Hello, got mine yesterday too. What I believe would considered the "noise floor" is much less. The only other aspect that I noticed was that the instrument sounded "crisper" if that is an acceptable term. I was sent # 642 and 2400 something! Comparing it to a production reel dub (15ips, 2track, IEC) that I have, I can only comment that it sounds 'different' and enjoy both.👍 2Comment
