  • Ten Best Cat Stevens Songs

One of the best songwriters rock has ever known. What great lyrics! And love his guitar playing too! And his albums are pretty darn good sounding.

    In no particular order:

The First Cut is the Deepest (though prefer the Rod Stewart version better)
    Peace Train
    Moonshadow
    Oh So Very Young
    Can't Keep It In
    Where Do the Children Play
    How Can I Tell You
    Sad Lisa
    Longer Boats
    Sun

I find it near impossible to pick a favorite song from the list too. It would come down to "How Can I Tell You, Longer Boats, Sad Lisa and Peace Train." What a choice!!!

Thanks for stirring up some nice old memories. I'll have to think about it, but you have picked some great ones. My main memory was going to Harold and Maude in the early '70's and listening to all the Cat Stevens songs which made up the soundtrack, We were living in our first house in Newark California, close to the old Dumbarton Bridge where one of the scenes of the movie takes place. Stevens wrote some of the songs for the movie soundtrack, while others were from Tea for the Tillerman and Mona Bone Jakon. Both of albums made the TAS Superdisc list in some form along with Numbers and Teaser and the Firecat. I bought the soundtrack album on vinyl which was only released in 2007.

Nice list Myles! I'd have to go back and listen to the albums before I could give you my personal Top 10, but I do generally like your list. Perhaps I would have to include Father & Son, Hard-Headed Woman and Wild World, but what to take out? .

Exactly the problem I was running up against. Plus didn't want to take everything from one album.

Plus know a lot of people don't realize "The First Cut is the Deepest" was written and first performed by Cat Stevens, not Rod Stewart.
