      Too many different styles of both rock music and drummers to have a "best". For instance, many would say Baker had too many jazz stylings to be a great "rock" drummer.

      I've always thought Mitch Mitchell was under-appreciated, and wondered why he disappeared after Jimi died.

            Too many good choices pick a few "best", but for me - Ginger Baker, Kieth Moon, Carl Palmer, Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, Carmine Appice, and maybe Guy Evans.

              given an expansive definition of rock I would say these would be my favorites;

              Hal Blaine - Wrecking Crew - do I need to go any further.

              Terry Bozzio - If he could play Zappa's music what couldn't he play?

              Stewart Copeland - What can I say, a sweet spot for me considering my age.

              Al Jackson - Stax, Otis Redding and Al Green.

              Mitch Mitchell - See Bozzio above but Mitch did it with Hendrix

                    Great choice!

                    I would also mention Dave Grohl as well as Vinnie Colaiuta, Sting's long time collaborator. Saw him playing at the Sting/Gabriel tour and he was amazing.

                      My top 5 would be Moon (by far #1 rock drummer), Bonham, Baker, Peart and Mitchell. Lots of other good ones but as for these, I can't imagine their band's music without them. Don't forget Ringo.
