  • What Do You Think is the Most Underrated Classical Label?

    Nonesuch.

As long as you like modern American or a little offbeat classical composers or music. In some ways the successor to Mercury Records. Wonderful engineering by Mark Aubort and great sound to boot. Just AR times the Q/C of the vinyl is wanting.

Runner up. Astree, a small label from Belgium.

To be honest I do not understand the underrating of the US Blue Angel records ?
I find time and again, that they sound better then there EMI & Columbia UK counterparts and with a much lower noise floor, how come the underrating ?
I got several records with the same music on Blue Angel and Emi/Columbia, the Blue Angel label wins every time.
I have written a bit on collectors weekly on this subject.

Erato France is another label to keep an eye out for, especially for anything by Messiaen and two oddball percussion music albums featuring music fron composers like Constant, Xenaxis, Stockhausen, etc. Most of the albums can be had for a song.

I can add the Bach organworks with Marie-Claire Alain on Erato, they are simply brilliant.

Ha, I thought I was the only one who picked up the organ recordings. Bought a ton of them off an eBay seller from Canada a couple of years ago for $3.99 apiece and they were all in mint shape.

Also Durufle's Requiem on HPs list, as well as a couple of wonderful cello pieces with Paul Tortelier and some piano works with the LaBeque sisters.

Else they would have gone to the bin, as many lp´s do in my country, people don't know what they are throwing out.
