How about a thread devoted to just classical listening? I'll start with this one. Lewis is a fantastic player and is very well recorded.

One of my favorite EMI recordings (ASD 2369). Side one starts off with the French composer Eric Satie's remarkable ballet Parades followed by what many consider the predecessor to "ambient" music Gymnopedie No. 1 and 3 (that many have heard even if they don't realize it eg. see BS&T's second album); side two concludes with another Satie Ballet Relache, the French word for the show is cancelled. The French conductor Auriacombe does a great job with Satie and the sound is extraordinary at times. Sonically, Gymnopedie No. 3 tops the charts with its recreation of the sound of the hall, huge stage and percussion work.

I've been impressed with some of Decca's latest releases. I really enjoy this LP: Believe it was recorded all analog D2D.

^ Yes, I like this version more. I have it on CD as part of a Decca boxset. I think the SC reissue is out, but did not not get good reviews on AcousticSounds if I remember.

Myles, do you have the original Decca or reissue?

Original but it's been hard to find one in good shape.

I bought this CD after reading that a reviewer who was reviewing some very expensive ($40k) speakers used it as a "reference recording." It certainly sounds good, but I have a few that sound better. Still, Kissin's playing is phenomenal, and for $1.09, I could do a lot worse!

I'm not home right now but just before leaving for dinner out I was listening to the Rafael Fruehbeck de Burgos recordings of de Falla's Three cornered Hat, an original recording on Angel, blue label from the 60s I think. Outstanding recording. And Fruhbeck de Burgos on a Speakers Corner reissue of Albeniz pieces his own arrangements. Both outstanding. Finally outstanding cd of 1983 Vienna Phi and Von Karajan New Years concert. Very good live recording.

For digiphiles, the Albeniz mentioned above is due out on SACD from Analogue Productions later this year. Based on their first release in that series (the Oistrakh Bruch/Hindemith), it should be well-worth waiting for.
