  • Record Store Day 2016 - What's your haul ?

I just finished my ebay assault and picked up 5 titles.
Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.

Well I scored Hendrix smash hits on rsd, but I didn't go to the store, I got it on ebay for $35 including shipping. no hassle, no disappointment.

This is the day I make sure I do not go near a record store. Kind of like shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. Or trying to go to a bar when Prohibition ended. Or racing to the ATM when there is a run on the bank.
I bought a copy of the Big Star record from a flipper. Worth the premium to avoid.
JC- is Smash Hits a re-do of the old compilation? I probably have several old copies- is there something special about the RSD release, or was it long out of print?

RSD is the day to avoid record stores. This year the only release I was interested in was only released in the UK. The Australian label The Roundtable reissued a rare fusion/jazz rock album by Arena, originally released in Oz in 1976. One of my UK distros is trying to pick up some copies for me.

My local store stopped participating in RSD. Instead they put out major collections they purchased.

I dropped a few hundred today. My biggest score was a Bob Ludwig Led Zeppelin II.

Didn't know RL LZII was an RSD offering. Go figure.

In addition to Zep II I came home with

            Jack DeJohnette - Sorcery (Prestige)
            Kenny Barron - Lucifer (Muse)
Steve Grossman - Some Shapes To Come (PMM)
Charles Tolliver - The Ringer (Arista Freedom)
            Magog - Magog (Japo)
Archie Shepp - Jazz A Confronto (Horo)
Michael Urbaniak Group - Inactin (Spiegelei)
            Richard Davis - Dealin' (Muse)
Dave Brubeck Qt - Jazz Impressions Of Eurasia (Columbia 6-eye)

Very jazz-centric haul with some very collectible labels included.

The RSD 2016 version of smash hits is a remastered 180g redo of the old compilation, but it has a different cover and its limited to 5000 pressings.
I'm pretty sure the original has been out of print for a long time too. The new cover is the same photo as the poster that comes with the LP. (the band on horseback in a western town setting ). The new cover was the original intention for the album cover back in 1969.
