  • Dire Straits - Love Over Gold. Another early issue LP from shortly after it came out. I know this is the audiophile favorite of Dire Straits LPs, and I do like it, but their first LP is still my favorite of all their albums.

Me too. We had tickets to see Hamilton and Cirque du Soleil and both got cancelled. We subscribed to Disney Plus just to see Hamilton. Running the TV through the stereo is one reason my wife puts up with it.

                            • Handel - Music For The Royal Fireworks and The Water Music (English Chamber Orchestra (augmented, Johannes Somary cond). This is an interesting Vanguard LP from 1973. Though it doesn't specify period instruments, nor does it sound like they are (though are there any modern Serpents?) they make a big deal of it using the original scoring including 12 bassoons, 24 oboes and two of the aforementioned Serpents, among other things. It doesn't initially come across as a great recording, but by the end it sounds very right. Maybe not my favorite L for either of these pieces, but every so often I find I to be the one I want to hear. It was also released as an SQ encoded quad LP.

I find this LP pretty fascinating, as it just sounds so different from the other recordings in my collection. That's a lot of bassoons and oboes!
