Unfortunately, this is not new news. Apple has, over recent years, made gradual, incremental changes in how iTunes works. And what is does/can do with music on one's computer.
And it's not good. So, I just shut off all access to the internet via iTunes, do not use the store, and for the most part do not keep music in an iTunes library/folder.
That said, there are a couple of features that I like for checking if metadata has been entered correctly/consistently, so
I use it for that, and only that. But, as far as I'm concerned, one uses iTunes at their own risk. -
There is a cautionary tale if I've ever heard one. The benign great and powerful Oz, er, Apple reaching into private property and destroying and stealing personal property all the while indemnified by fine print nobody ever reads or understands.
