  • The day their music died (band specific)!

Was the departure of Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel from Genesis, to use but two examples, the day their music died? If you participate on some other boards and read the comments you'd think that was the case. Personally I don't buy it for a second. There is no doubt the music of each evolved into other directions (however slight), but to say it died is preposterous and narrow-minded.

    Thoughts? Other expamples?

Peter Cetera leaving Chicago killed it for me, also Steve Perry not returning to Journey was the end of that love affair.

Never been a big Journey fan, but always liked Chicago. What was Peter Cetera's last album with them?

Oh you disappoint me John, not a Journey fan? Chicago XIV was Peters last I believe. He was the songwriter on most all of their early big hits.

Ok here is another. When Tom Johnston had to leave the Doobie Brothers that group died. Luckily Tom got back with the brothers and they sound as good as ever. One of my favorite live bands.

Chicago getting away from their hard rocking roots killed them for me. The first two LPs are stunning and I never felt the rest after that. Steve Perry had stage fright and could no longer get on stage and sing in front of people so he jumped ship.

And John, never mind Syd Barrett leaving Pink Floyd as that did not kill the band. Roger Waters leaving Pink Floyd killed the band. Ditto for CCR when Fogerty packed it in.

Don't really have a solid reason for not exploring Journey more than I did...perhaps an oversight. With regard to Chicago XIV, that is also where I lost interest (although a have X).

Roger and his ego killed the band. Had he been more autocratic who knows.

Wish I were more of a Pink Floyd fan, I actually started exploring them after having Roger Waters, Radio KAOS release.

David Lee Roth leaving van Halen?

Does Ginger Spice leaving the Spice Girls count?

I will say Sammy Hagar brought something to the table Diamond Dave didn't have. The early years of Van Halen were great, my first concert!

Myles gets his back room premier club card revoked for that.
