Ha! I thought it had been settled back in April. Apparently not.

Apparently something happened between my last post on the lawsuit and yours.

        And then this news today:
Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” copyright trial got underway in Los Angeles on Tuesday but already there has been a dispute over whether a video played as evidence had been properly submitted to the case, sparking debate about a possible mistrial.

A few years ago while driving somewhere, my son had his iPod plugged in the car system, and mentioned how much he liked this one song that came up. I replied "I suppose if you like bad takes on old Led Zeppelin songs." He says "What?!" I said "it's a ripoff of Trampled Underfoot.". He stopped the song, scrolled over to LZ, and played Trampled Underfoot. "No wonder I like it so much..."

Hard to say what is intentional plagiarism, and what is unintentional use of something you heard in the past. the Sam Smith / Tom Petty case was pretty clear, this one, not so sure.

Nope...there are only so many chords you can play on a guitar...there are many ways to play them...strumming, picking, ect. This lawsuit is bunk and is the perfect example of a frivolous lawsuit. If they had issue, they should of taken it up in the 70's after the song came out. There are no shortage of blood suckers in the world.

I think I said it before but "embellishing" on some others work was a tradition in folk music.

                    Breaking news.

A jury found Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page not guilty of copyright infringement on perhaps their most famous song, "Stairway to Heaven."

Randy California (when he was alive) usually said (paraphrasing) he didn't care whether Stairway was copying Taurus, LZ was welcome to it either way, thus answering the question of why a suit wasn't brought long ago. Ian Anderson wasn't quite so sanguine about We Used To Know and Hotel California, but I don't there was any legal activity there either.
