I remember in the early days of MTV, they didn't have much of a catalog of videos. MTV was fun stuff and a real surprise when it was first broadcast, but very little of the music captured on video really holds up. Some important exceptions, but mostly pedestrian, ephemeral material. For the most part they were not music captured on video. MTV and 1981 is a dividing line in music for me. It seems after MTV the music suffered because it became more important how you looked rather than how you sounded. I really don't get into much music after 1981.
