  • It killed me to do it, but......

....I finally placed an order with MusicDirect.

You're probably thinking why I would feel that way, so let me tell you.

First...I can't find them anywhere in Canada. Not at various B&M's or online...so I had no choice and I hate that. .
Second.....conversion rates are really high at the moment with $1 USD equalling $1.30 CDN. Not a big deal as I expect that and it's built into the pricing here anyway.
Third....no free shipping and rates are outrageous $34.69 USD ($44.99 CDN) for 3 albums. They wanted $30 USD for one LP so I saved a little by buying three.

I was able to get the 20% discount they were offering, so that saved me some money.

My order came to $142.67 USD
You would have paid $107.98 USD

    I bought:
    45RPM MFSL - I Robot
    45RPM AP - Phoebe Snow
33RPM Friday Music - The Best of the Lovin' Spoonful

If you ever complain about the pricing, please consider and recognise you guys have it good.

Johhny, look at the bright side you LIVE in Canada. I would love to retire in a place like Vancouver or Montreal.

Dat's OK. I have cut back my buying albums from Canadian eBay dealers for the same reason. They have to have an album I must have and looking for over five years! I swear it's cheaper to order an album from HK than Canada.

+1 brother! I'm in Whistler now and absolutely love this place! Pemborton Musicfest is happening this weekend (though we don't have tix), and the hiking, biking, and natural beauty of this area is stunning!

            Hey Johnny. Stop your whining.

If you think vinyl is expensive, try living in Australia.

I am not saying Johnny is frugal but at the back of his wallet are some King George bills

Order received from FedEx and add another $17.51 to the total for brokerage fee and GST. In total $203.70 CDN for 3 albums. Converted it would have cost you $140.95 CDN. I get to pay an almost 50% premium.....GRRR! No wonder I buy more locally and from the UK.

John, is that brokerage fee because of FedEx? if something is shipped via USPS and you receive it from Canadian post, is there still a brokerage fee or additional charges ?

Yes...FedEx fee. I'd love it if MusicDirect and the others would give an option to use USPS/CP....The cost is less and no fees.

Is there a MoFi distributor in Canada?
FWIW, I recently had Acoustic Sounds send me a record using a credit I had. They gave me the option of having it sent by media mail, which is not normally what they offer when you buy from their online store (typically it is Fedex if memory serves). It might be worth calling Music Direct to find out if they can make such an accommodation on shipping to reduce your cost. And, aren't new records, like the MoFi's, sold by resellers located in Canada on Canadian Ebay?

There are no distributors per se for any of the reissue labels, only dealers. MoFi titles in general are fairly easy to be had, but most of the others are only carried by dedicated dealers and the selection is slim at best. AP titles are almost impossible to find. In the case of I Robot I've been looking for it since it was released (local/ out-of-town/online only) and still nothing...hence my order with MD. I added 2 other titles to lessen the overall shipping burden cost.

Seeing as AS gave you the option of Media Mail with regard to your credit I think it would indeed behove me to contact someone at MD or any of the others. I really would like to order more from MD,AS,SD, etc as they have the selection we just don't have.
