        • One of the first digital recordings on the Soundstream system from 1983. LP mastering by Stan Ricker. Love the Bosendorfer Imperial Concert Grand piano.

soundstream had been around quite a while by 1983. They released the worlds first digital recording in 1978. According to wiki, they went out of business in 1985.

Here is an article I wrote for the audio society May 2011:

I also misspoke, this was recorded in 1979.

Awesome album and the standard pressing is like audiophile quality.

        • I love this album. British short pieces brilliantly recorded and played. Transparent as can be.

Nice album. IIRC compiled from a couple of different original releases.

I have the early mofi Lp (33 rpm) which I haven't heard in ages. I need to revisit it. I recall it being a sonic gem.

found a stock third pressing (palm trees label) of American Beauty in my collection and spun that. Its not bad but no where near as good as I remember the mofi sounding. You can barely hear the mandolin at times.

        • Oils!!

Diesel and Dust - original Aussie pressing and sounds awesome. two weeks to go before the box set is released.

FR-4/FR-2 Original issue Mercury. I have the 45 reissues of course. I am impressed with the power and sound of this old 33 record. It was a pretty long search for this NM- copy.

Do you have an original Mercury version ? If so, do you hear some cutter overload on the bass drums at the very end of "The Evil God And The Dance Of The Pagan Monsters" track two side B ? Anyone else hear it if they have an original ? There is no overload distortion like that anywhere else on the record....my copy.

Also discogs has no date but the AMS version is listed as 1957. I would imagine the SR version was released in 1958. I have played it both with RIAA and Mercury EQ roll-off at -11dB and 400Hz turnover. I like Merc EQ best with most pre 1960 Mercurys...especially 1958.

Been so long I don't remember. Think I also got the ORG reissue too? Hmmmm...Or was it Classic? Or was it both?

I'll try and give it a listen over the weekend. Right now will be putting the new SPods under the S5s so need to see how that changes the sound first.

              • I tried to play prince I never did like him much just a handful cool tunes. Grateful Dead went to two concerts just got stoned and never enjoyed them either. Funny two greats that never got me. Must be me.

I see its been reissued which is good news. Not sure why they have glammed up the cover on the reissue!!
