Yes cassette sales are up though not going to tell you it's because of the sound. I know several companies out there now making cassette tapes. Still people out there with Dragons and other cassette machines.
I think one take home message is Discogs represents not just "new" sales but also "used" sales of CD/LPs, etc. And that looks pretty robust with 3.2 million records sold in the first half of 2016. That's compared to ~600k CDs. So either the sites is analogcentric or people are just shifting to buying downloads.
