Xmas time usually means the Vienna Boys Choir at Carnegie Hall.

(sorry for the lousy picture)
Heidi and I enjoyed a wonderful matinee performance today of the Boys Choir conducted by Joseph Chiang. The first half of the concert consisted of more "traditional" Viennese and Austrian Christmas music, carols and folk songs including works by the Haydn Bros and Mozart. The second half was more "Christmassy" type music with the highlight for me being the choir's performance of four pieces from Britten's Ceremony of Carols. While I prefer Britten's traditional arrangement of the choir accompanied by harp, Chiang did a masterful of substituting on the piano. As usual, the Boys Choir saved their best for last with Silent Night, a rousing performance of Feliz Navidad capped off by a splendidly acted out So Long, Farewell from the Sound of Music.
