  • Darn you Audionirvana!

Checking in here has led to multiple new music purchases. Here are some of the latest adds- most but not all as a result of looking in over here!

I had "For Duke" but I'm sure it got left at an audio buddy's 20 years ago and he's not talking.. so I bought a NOS copy for a reasonable price. Also was able to find Gary Koh's recommendation of Monty Alexander NOS for "reasonable" $ on ebay.

So thanks for spending my money guys!

The Gary Karrs are wonderful! Interesting, the better the system, the better they sound. I find that his bass can sound overblown and bigger than life. But on the best systems, the bass should sound very lifelike.

I heard the Gary Karr , Kol Nideri at the Canadian TAVES Audio Show in Toronto. It was played on the KEF Muon's ( multiple 6 figures) and the DD VPI. I also met HW in the room he was using his new in-house phono stage.

I could hear the potential of the album but to be truthful it was way overblown in the bass- I was well to the back of the room so that might of had something to do with it. Sounds good on my system with the dual RELs with a little bloat but I am solving for that .

didn't your buddy Gary Koh corner the market on SS copies of For Duke? He can tell that story. When Music by the Sea was in business, Steve McCormack kept a case of sealed LPs nearby, he'd sell you a copy for $100 with a personal inscription. I can't recall a time For Duke wasn't on everyone's wish list.

Actually finding NOS sealed copies was not that difficult. The ebay thing was admittedly a fluke but several sealed "For Duke" LPs were out there. You have to be selective on vendor because some are asking a ransom for this album.

I have several copies of For Duke including my original copy purchased when it first came out. I like to have a few available for visitors who have never heard it and want a copy.
