I recently watched "Catcus Flower" with Walter Matthau and Goldie Hawn, originally released in 1969. Goldie Hawn worked in a music store and they had those listening booths in the movie. It was pretty cool seeing what a music store looked like in the 60s.Comment

In '83, I spent a wonderful two month fellowship in Paris. There was this wonderful record store on the Champs Elysees where you could pick a record off the shelf, go into a booth and listen before purchasing. Of course, if you didn't buy the album, the salesman put the record back on the shelf like it was new.
'60s wasn't all glamor as evidenced by the Sam Goody scandal where salesman took returned records, brought them downstairs and then rewrapped them and sold the LPs as new. Funny thing though. A friend pointed out that the rewrapped records were seldom returned.
