  • How Much Money Did You Spend on Music Software in 2016?

I was looking through my receipts while putting my taxes together this year and was shocked by how much money I spent on music. Them LPs and tapes sure eat through the cash and reckon I paid for at least a part of Chad's vacation last year. Plus a few others.

Between $3- 4000 I estimate. I should be a VIP amazon customer. I will never give a cent to Chad.

To my ears, 45 rpm easily beats 33 1/3 rpm. I only came to this realization late last year (2016). With that, 2017 will be my biggest year for spending, ever. I'm already at $1,000, and rising.

Had I not purchased the Tzar DST cartridge last year, I'd be a reel to reel guy, and that would make for an expensive future.

I put down the $2-3K box on the poll, but after adding up some others box sets and used record runs, I've come to the conclusion......I need to turn over my CC to my wife.

This includes my tidal prescription. I own almost 15TB and then tidal. I just don't buy music anymore.
Now ask how much have I spent. That is a tough one but

I've really curtailed my music buying since I retired a little over 2.5 years ago. I'm averaging one LP per month this year and I don't see that changing.

I spent just way too much. I realized by getting into some recordings of music I'm not familiar with I could enjoy very well produced material that would have a bigger impact than multilevel jumps in equipment upgrades. So, earlier on last year I spent multi $$ on discogs and try to take advantage of the 20% off sales at vendors when they arrive. The strong U$ and paying for shipping just adds to costs for mail order.

Reading here and on other boards I discovered some great music and some not so great music ( to me) that others wax over. I do have enough to keep me busy for years and I really need to start cleaning with the Klaudio the bulk of the collection and enjoy it.

Having said all that I bought 3 new cartridges and a whole wack of sound treatment from Stillpoints in the last 12mos... I add it up but I don't look.

After I went on disability about eight years ago, we severely slashed my "luxury goods" budget, so I don't spend nearly as much as I used to. I would say, I average 6-8 CDs a month, sometimes more, sometimes less. So far this month, I've bought three, I think.

I voted 3-4k for 2016, and that only included stuff I purchased on AS. I forgot to include MD, ED, or eBay. So likely higher.

Spending $417 per month on music seems like its less hurt on the check book then spending 5K per year.....at least that's what I tell myself

When you cut back, like I've had to do, you look at releases differently and ask first if you really need it. Well, need is the wrong word as none of us do, but you get my drift surely. I'm much more selective now. New records or not...I'm still having fun playing what I already have...so it's all good!
