So how do apps like Shazam and Soundhound work?I am amazed how Shazam can ID the music-even classical-and give you the conductor, orchestra and recording. Soundhound doesn't seem as good Shazzam. Great when tech works. Might be good thing to bring along to shows so can ID what you are listening to!

I've only used Shazam, and did not know about Soundhound. I will have to give Soundhound a try.

Shazam has a database with millions of songs. The technology they use breaks each song down into a unique signature which is stored on the database. When you use the app it creates a signature of the song you want to identify. The app connects to their database of signatures and looks for matches. Once a match is made it returns the associated track information, and displays it in the app.
