There are some titles however whereby I'd really like the best that's out there, which I think is quite normal.
You mean not everyone is like me? You mean buying records, put them on the shelf and eventually get around to listening to them isn't normal behavior? Hmmm....maybe 10, maybe 15, OK 20% have yet to be played?

Yes you won't have the ne plus ultra pressing but just sit back and enjoy the music with the libation of your choice which you can buy with the price difference!

Agree Myles, I think prices, while still high, have come down a bit. And price variability is huge. You could get lucky and find something few people are bidding on...

John, I sympathize. All I can suggest is keep an eye out for sometimes these albums do fall through the cracks.

As far as the market. It comes and goes. But it is certainly driven by huckster dealers buying these albums from eBay auctions and then doubling or quadrupling the price too. But these albums aren't moving as much lately so prices may come down in the long run.

I remember not so long ago that the Mercs and RCAs were hideously expensive. Now outside of a handful of titlles, the prices have come down. So patience is sometimes your best friend.

I've seen one album from the '70s, a top 20, that the last clean copy I've seen was $200.

It seems silly to me to pay big bucks for an OOP reissue when something can simply be reissued again and again for less money. Now originals, that's another story.

Some records I paid $30 for a few years ago are now worth up to $300, I have several of these still sealed. I will 'off' these at some point and use the proceeds to buy what I really want its a vicious cycle and part of the insanity of being a vinyl addict.
    Haha! Very funny!

I have a couple of titles that I'm thinking of "offing" as you say, so that's a good way of softening the blow. On the other hand, I might just wait it out for another year or so as I'm not sure these prices can be maintained. It seems over the top to me and purely a result of the resurgence of vinyl, which won't last forever.

I was looking through eBay, Discogs, Popsike and even various Amazon sites and have noticed a huge upsurge in pricing on Out-of-Print titles. Since I own a good number of them I'm glad to see I have some things of value, but man, it sure makes adding to my collection a lot more expensive. Quite frankly, I really can't afford to partake much more as I won't spend more than $200 for a single LP that I really want to add.

I know that you can buy them for less at times and I have, but the starting pointing points are getting obscene. I guess I'll never own that Classic Records reissue of Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door.

For those who seek out product as mentioned in the thread title, what do you think about the current pricing?
