  • Pls recommend mono jazz lps.

Dont want too many hit and miss. Friends in this forum have such great vinyl collections. Will really appreciate all recommendations especially on vocal jazz.

My top choice: Louis Armstrong Plays WC Handy. I have the Pure Pleasure LP release, which sounds very good (though it is unclear what tapes these are from, because the original masters were tossed out after they were digitized - a horrible mistake). In CDs, you have the choice of the 1986 release (which was essentially alternate takes), or the 1997 compilation (from some of the masters and needle drops). This is one of the greatest Jazz performances ever and the recording (as with almost all Satchmo albums) is superb.

If you like big band, or frankly if you don’t, I have said numerous times on this site that this is the single most dynamic big band recording I own in mono or stereo. The playing is sensational. Buy it. You can thank me later.

This is one of the seminal moments in jazz and a must for anyone even remotely interested in magical performances.

Click image for larger version Name: Views:	1 Size:	1.32 MB ID:	82279 It's not vocal jazz but arguably one of the best jazz mono's I have. I haven't been able to find a clean enough copy of the 1959 original but I have an extremely clean and quiet copy of the 1960 repress, and as good as the 4 LP single sided 45rpm remaster from Classic Records is, when I want ALL of the meat left on the bone, the 1960 Mono is the one I play.
