Thanks for posting John! Everyone who doesn't have this box set should grab it! I think I'll even jump on this one. I have two of the tapes (I just reviewed them) and the music and sound is great. I think Larry/Astrotoy has commented on the box set too. Record 4, My Favorite Instrument, one of the few (only) solo Peterson recordings is amazing.

Great set of albums. I have the R2R versions - some of the only jazz I have (except for Tape Project tapes) on R2R. I'm not a jazz buff, but OP is someone very special. If the LP's are done well, this is a real bargain. The tapes (from Horch House) are superb - however, quite a bit more than the LP's.

On another site, I think I told the story about his piano of choice, the Austrian Boesendorfer. Back in the mid '80's we were in Vienna and were visiting Boesendorfer factory, just south of the city for a tour. They told us that after WWII, when they were starting to increase their production after all the damage of the war, they were making fewer than 100 pianos a year, all grands. One had to go to Vienna to buy the piano and OP very much wanted one. They said that at the time, they refused to sell OP a piano, because he didn't play the right kind of music. He didn't play classical. This was the company that produced pianos for Liszt, Brahms, Wagner, etc. Later, they changed their minds and OP bought his beloved Boesendorfer. When I got the tapes, I think I asked and IIRC the piano used in the recordings was not OP's and not a Boesendorfer.

Lucky guy! I paid a lot more in 2014 when I got the set directly from MPS. Do you also get the promo LP in this offer?

BTW, most people are not aware that a great recording of brasilian music was recorded at the MPS studios in Villingen, Germany. If you enjoy Baden Powell guitar get this delicious MPS LP as fast as possible (yes, the cover artwork is also great):

I'm waiting on the new Yello tape from Horch House that should be available this month. I'm excited to see more rock coming out on tape.

In the last year Amazon Canada has had some great deals, so make sure that you check them out before ordering from the US or UK sites. (I always do). Remember too that the Canuck buck is really low, so most of you guys will realize some savings.

Looks like Amazon Canada figured out their mistake. Just checked on the George Duke box set from MPS and both Amazon US and Canada are roughly the same. ☹️

I've got that tape, and it's one of the best tapes I've got (but I have a miniscule number of tapes).

The Oscar Peterson box set is fabulous! I have all the originals, and the box set. Slightly different presentation, but both are excellent. The bonus with the MPS box set is excellent..... and I paid much more for the original direct from MPS.

Just finishing the Yello tape review along with one of Jonathan tapes. Yes it's great.

They did have to touch the tapes/LP reissues up because of the condition of the masters. But as I mentioned in my review, all the adjustments were done in the analog domain on the tape deck.
