  • Blue Note Tone Poet Series

Blue Note Records just announced a new "Tone Poet" Series of all analog vinyl jazz reissues curated by Joe Harley, who co-produces with Ron Rambach the Music Matters Blue Note vinyl reissue series. These records will be produced the way those are: mastered cut directly from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and plated and pressed at RTI and deluxe gatefold packaged.

According to Mikey's blurb on Analog Planet: "...Mr. Harley selects the titles that include classic Blue Notes, both lesser known classics and modern era recordings as well as records from other labels within the Blue Note catalog."

The Chick Corea title on Solid State Records was owned by United Artists, SSR doesn't come up under today's Blue Note Record group's catalog (per Wiki). I'm not grumbling over Harley's reissue choices but I think they should finish off important RVG-engineered recordings and pursue the CTI, Kudu, Milsestone, Muse, Criss Cross, etc. back catalog. A lot of it was excellent to superb for music and sound.

BTW, the series so far seems to be a smashing success. The first run of the first three releases were completely sold out and the distributors are awaiting arrival of a new shipment of LPs.

And yet according to some of the golden eared audiophiles they are horrible.

I haven’t actually seen or heard anything other than Mikey’s reviews that were positive. I ordered the first two late and am in a holding pattern for the first 2 releases.
      Working...
