Although he isn't strictly a traditional jazz guitarist, I've got to say that Guthrie Govan has really impressed me with some of his fusion pieces. Extra points for a highly original style.

HUGE BIll Frisell fan and lucky to have seen him live a few times. His version of Shenandoah from Good Dog Happy Man is one of my primary test tracks. Highly recommend his albums with Charles Lloyd (including the one featuring Lucinda Williams).

I absolutely love Frisell, but also John Scofield must be mentioned (and Metheny, Abercrombie, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder ...)

Metheny's "Bright Size Life" remains hugely influential on many modern guitar players (including Frisell himself) and is a classic of modern jazz guitar.

Joe Pass died in May 1994. So he is outside the 25 years.

Al DeMeola is not in the same category as the others listed so far.

He is very accomplished, and do not discount due to genre

Okay fair enough. I'm not expert in his genre so I make that clear. I just never heard Al play harmonically in the class of the others here. Whereas I hear Chick Corea play in that genre or John McLaughlin and I hear near genius. I may be wrong so take my comment with a grain of salt as Al is not a straight jazz player but I still can't hear him being in the league of the others mentioned.

Jerome brings up some interesting names including the last two. Haven’t heard them but there’s lots of respect for Rosenwinkel and especially Monder from fellow artists.

There are so many fine jazz guitarists that is difficult to pick the best, however Frisell has to be right near the top!

It has just been 25 years by one month, certainly he deserves a break. LOL

Myles.......Bill Frisell - Good Dog, Happy Man is one of my favorite albums. The tune "Shenandoah" with Ry Cooder playing guitar along with Bill Frisell is such a wonderful performance.

How does Kenny Burrell compare with these guitarists. He is probably on the early side of the 25 year period. I also have albums by Wes Montgomery and Django Reinhardt, again earlier, but they may be familiar to the jazz fans.
