You could buy them and clean out your system at the same time. It's a win--win!

Nice quartet! I forgot you ordered Hope. Last you said, were disappointed didn't have your favorite song. Well the others will make up for that one song. My vote for first tape on the take up reel is Hope or Pines!

Sure seems Chad is selling them as fast as he makes them. Nice to see too AP has a supply of back tapes too!

I could have been boring and posted the Monty Python video but instead decided to go with the weird Al Yankovic version. ā¤ļø

Hope is missing Languta. I wasn't going to get it. However, as one of our buddies said: "in for a penny, in for a pound!".

I already had RLJ spooled up when you posted a first suggestion. Fountains/Pines did follow.

Well, I played RLJ side 1 (or Reel A) and it didn't disappoint. It was pretty much what one would expect from a very good tape.

In system, the bass was solid, the vocals pure/controlled with no sense of edge or unnatural sibilance, and instruments had clarity with very good micro- and macro-dynamics. Overall, it's a pretty good tape.

As a test, it will let one know if the vinyl front-end is solid. The vinyl setup is doing well If one can get the AP 45rpm of this album close to and/or match the clarity on dynamics and tracing of instruments and vocals.

Hope is a killer recording. This tape transfer is probably as good as it gets. On my Studer A810 MkII with trafoless output cards into McIntosh C1000P (solid state pre-amp), delicious.......

Looking forward to hearing it even though it's missing my favorite track, Languta. It will be the last APUT of the 4 that I listen to.

I managed to play both A&B of the APUT reels in the Pines of Rome/Fountains of Rome box set. The sound was very nice, spacious, and dynamic on both performances.

Fountains has always been my favorite of the two for its musical interpretation although I understand the bolder contrasts and attraction for Pines.

In both cases, the tape performance was excellent and fresh (different) due to the new 2-track mixdown from the 3-track master tape used to make this R2R release.

Tonight was reserved for reels A&B from the APUT of Scheherazade. Just like the Pines/Fountains APUT, this performance was excellent.

Additionally, it was also a fresh (different) perspective due to the new 2-track mixdown from the 3-track master used to make this reel-to-reel tape.

I could mirror the comments I made about Pines/Fountains in that these Scheherazade tapes were also very nice, spacious, and dynamic.

The instrument separation and clarity was impressive as well as the way the strings stayed focused and pure through very large fortissimos during the performance.

                This is an excellent tape.

I played the final album of the 4-pack today (and last night): The APUT Hugh Masekela ā€“ Hope (reels A&B).

Everything Iā€™d expected from the APUT version of this album was present and performing. The reels had very good sound with foundational low frequency content to tie things together.

Subjectively, it sounded like reel A had more signal on it which was confirmed by watching my meters and the peak indicators during the playback of both tapes. This was nothing out of the ordinary by any means. It was just an interesting observation.
