  • New R2R Tape from HDTT - Direct copy from Master Tape!

    https://www.highdeftapetransfers.com...l-master-tapes

Bob Witrak has just announced his first R2R release, a direct copy of the master tape on 15ips 2 track. It is a 2 reeler, of orchestral and chamber music of Howard Hanson. I have the hirez DSD version of this album and it is really great stuff. Hanson's music is tuneful and the recording is dynamic. The organ concerto is a special treat. I haven't heard the tape yet, but it should be even better than the digital version, since it is coming directly from the master tape. Witrak also includes a a flash drive with the album in all of his digital formats from 24/96 pCM up to DSD256, which is what I have. Price is $499, very reasonable for what you are getting.

Never heard of the recording engineer but do remember Albany Records. Interesting. DBX encoded.

        Hello,

Our release of Hanson's An American Romantic is the World Premiere (at the time) of some of Hansons
shorter works. It was originally released by Albany Records. When it was originally released in 1982 and we released it in digital formats mastered at DSD256, the reviews were excellent. It remains one of our top-selling releases. Positive feedback gave it excellent reviews also Audiostream named it as Download of the week.

The recording was engineered by John Proffitt who is an excellent engineer and is still very active today.
He mainly now records in 5.0 multichannel, and we have released numerous titles from his recent recordings
on Blu-ray, and in download formats, all of these recordings consistently get rave reviews. The original master tape was used for the transfers and was decoded from DBX (NR was used extensively on master tapes when this was recorded in the early 80's) and to IEC equalization from NAB (so DBX decoding is not necessary).

Jonathan Horwich did all the transfers for us from International Phonograph Inc. which I would believe is well
known in this forum. We also provide all the digital formats from DSD256 down on a USB flash drive.
As a side note, we have access to many other first generation masters more from Mr. Proffitt and also
from Direct to Tape Recordings recorded by Bob Sellman. Grant you some of the titles can be a little obscure
but they are all sonically excellent (many of you probably remember DTR's releases in the 1980's).

So if this issue works out, we will offer much more down the road.

        Regards
        Robert Witrak

Hi Bob and welcome to Audionirvana!

I heard your quad-DSD transfers of Jonathan's tapes at CAF. You really captured the essence and sound of his recordings!

Hopefully will get around in the near future to ordering a copy of the new tape (from a Mercury/Hanson fan!).
