Brothers In Arms is digital through and through. Apparently I'm in the minority on this, the music is fine but the toms/cymbals sound 'crunchy' to me like early digital, this goes for all of DS's post analog recordings.

Well...this has been discussed a lot. BIA was recorded on a 24-track Sony digital tape machine, yes. But it was mixed on a Neve 8078 console, which is an analog console and known for its excellent sound. In spite of being marketed as a full digital recording it really wasn’t. I think it sounds excellent.

Excellent! Thanks for the info Myles. For all Dire Straits fans, I would also highly recommend their Australia concert DVD from 1986. Great versions of most songs

I wouldn't be surprised if LOVE OVER GOLD exceeds BROTHERS IN ARMS in sound quality. It was recorded around 1982 all analog and even stock copies sound wonderful.

While I am at the ground floor on analog and not looking to be the judge for all I can say so far digital vinyl is still very good. So far the best pure analog I have is the high masakela Hope album. It shows me how good a nail dragging ona on-a disk can just be amazing.
On tape I own about 20 tapes one is from a digital master tape. While I can tell it from the rest I'm not sure how to say it's still not a wow.
mom not gettig into the pure ness of our audio as I feel it's so messed up it's very hard to unwind it.
while at Gary's audio event he showed us how complex it is and there is almost no set way to make it perfect.
how the 50 year old tape on vinyl sounds so good is puzzling to me. Yet it can put tears in my eyes to hear it.

I don’t think there is any doubt about that. Love Over Gold is the best sounding Dire Straits album, IMO. And it’s a tremendous album musically. I have the long OOP Simply Vinyl of a Love Over Gold which is fabulous. I’m sure the new MoFi will be amazing.

"Love Over Gold" was a TAS Superdisc. HP's preferred pressing was WarnerBros 23728-1. Until I started trading tapes, that was the only Dire Straits album I had.

Now I have a few on R2R - Dire Straits, Communique, Love Over Gold, Making Movies, On Every Street, Brothers in Arms.
