I don't know where to begin a review of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Let's start with my comment to Heidi when the Garden's lights went back on after the final encore was over.
Me: I have never seen a concert done at such a frenetic pace.
Heidi: It was like watching a musical theater.
That sums things up in a nutshell.
Some of my online posts during the concert!
Sting and Gabriel rocking out the Garden 2 nite!
Sting just brought the house down with his rendition of "Roxanne" into Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine When She is Gone" finishing with a chorus of "Roxanne!"
Gabriel killing it with "In Your Eyes!"
What a fabulous encore. Sting with "Every Breath She Takes" and finishing with Sting and Gabriel doing "Sledgehammer" together. Bestest concert in years.
Nothing prepared me for what was going to unfold last night. In a snapshot, it was one Sting song right into one Peter Gabriel song into a Sting song into a Gabriel song for almost three hours without a break. Each musical genius accompanied the other; Gabriel on keyboards and vocals, Sting on guitar and vocals. 14 musicians and singers provided the backdrop with three drummers, up to five keyboardists, three guitarist, etc. An absolutely huge sound! While I've never been a huge Peter Gabriel fan, last night changed my mind. Then man can sing and what a stage presence. Plus the concert only elevated my opinion of Sting as possibly one of the most underrated rock 'n' roll artists of all time. He is a musical genius whether it comes to writing, singing or playing. What a spectacle!
Special mention goes out to Sting's long time drummer (30 years) and compatriot Vinnie Colaiuta! He was absolutely superb on drums and brought my favorite song of the night and one of my all time favorite Sting songs "Desert Rose" to life.
How can anyone not like this song!?!? Simply mindboggling live! How Sting brings tension and builds up the song live evades all audio systems.
Speaking of songs, doubt anyone walked away complaining Gabriel or Sting didn't cover their favorites. Well almost. Heidi wished that Sting did "Fields of Gold."Myles B. Astor, PhD, Administrator

funny - I've always been a Gabriel fan going back to the original Genesis days, Sting not so much. So I am looking forward to a greater appreciation of Sting (and Peter together) under the stars at Lake Tahoe. Thanks for the photos and the review. Seeing shows under the stars in NYC growing up (Schaeffer/Dr. Pepper) and at CBGB's got me into hifi (for nostalgia, my first system was ARC SP-3a-1, ARC-D76, KLH 9's, Linn Sondek and SME arm with Grace cartridge, I think the whole thing cost me $1800 used)

You're in for a real treat. That is if they haven't worn themselves out by the time they make their way out West! And wow, I totally forgot about the Dr. Pepper/Shaeffer concerts. Do you remember the concerts on the pier in the late '70s? Where I first saw RLJ. City would be abominably hot but it was always a lot cooler watching the music on the pier. That was a great, great system back in the day too.

WOW, would have given anything to be there. Hope they play London. Huge fans of both. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live DVD (and CD). Great musically and visually. Awesome band with Manu Katche on drums, Paula Cole backing vocals and Tony Levine on bass. I suspect even non Peter Gabriel fans may well enjoy this concert DVD.
