Just saw him last month at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and he put on a great show with a terrific band. His new CD, Stranger to Stranger, was given to everyone who bought tickets. The CD is pretty weak although the critics seem to like it - I find it difficult to get used to Paul Simon rapping.

t's the third time I've seen Simon - first on his Graceland tour with Ladysmith Black Mombazo and then on his reunion tour with Art Garfunkle. He has such a wide and deep body of great work that I wouldn't miss hearing any new music coming from him. I would hate to see him give up touring though.

I was at the Greek as well. Enjoyed the show save for the Steve Kerr distraction.

Graceland on CD is not bad. It was remastered a few years ago and the remaster is better although louder and with some bass emphasis. Great music all the way through and one of my favorites.

If you like it all, you have to see the documentary about its making called "Under African Skies", which really shows the genius of Paul Simon.

based on the subject header I thought this was about Weezer, now I can't the lyrics to "Say it aint so" outta my mind.

All great things eventually come to an end. The one time I heard Paul in concert was with Garfunkel in '83 when they were selling out stadiums, this was at "The Murph" in SD. I was more of a rocker then but I now appreciate his music more than ever.

Simon solo or Simon and Garfunkle? What's your opinion?

I like them both ways. they were awesome together but Paul's solo career was the better of the two for sure.

I'm a huge fan of Hearts and Bones and play it at least once week for the pleasure of it. The SQ is excellent, get the Quiex II promo pressed on super vinyl, they're easy to come by and copy or two are usually on ebay at any given time.

My other pick is the Concert in Central Park, it was part of their short lived reunion. The interplay between musicians and audience is interesting. when i have the Quad ESL in the system I always hear new shit every time I play it, subtle nuances like a lone voice in the audience or something Paul murmurs as turns away from the mic and in the quiet passages the sense of 'being there' in the audience can be palpable. just get the standard WB pressing, I guess 1st press is better. I know nothing of the recent reissue if its an improvement or three steps back as is often the case.

I guess he's figured he's done enough and just wants to step back and smell the roses in the remaining time he's allotted.

Solo for me although I like all the old S & G songs. Art Garfunkle is on a solo tour but I can't imagine seeing him without Simon.

Like Paul served either way. So many classics with Art Garfunkel and his solo work is arguably more musically interesting.

I just picked up his new album Stranger To Stranger, which a friend (huge fan) recommended. Hope to have a listen to it shortly.

Mikey's review of Stranger To Stranger

                        Music - 10
                        Sound - 10

Reunited with his old friend, producer and engineer Roy Halee, Paul Simon delivers an imaginative and vital record—his most fully realized since Graceland., though its musical complexity and mood more closely resemble Rhythm of the Saints” Halee and Simon implement here cut and paste production techniques similar to ones used on both Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints”, which Simon describes in the fascinating liner notes.
