  • His Cantankeous Side?

Arrr-teest. Sometimes the music is better than finding out about the person behind the music.
I interviewed my hero. It went horribly wrong.

I think I have it figured out. The woman conducting the interview was hung up on the animal sounds in the album and kept wanting to talk about the animal sounds, what they meant, and why they were there. Neil wanted to focus on the songs and couldn't get there with her. He probably got tired of her and just hung up.

I imagine after the hundred thousandth or so interview Neil has grown to dislike interviews in general. Basically the same questions for each album/performance for fifty years. Add to it he's never been the most outgoing extrovert anyhow.

My favorite interview- when Neil released that record, Living with War, ten years ago, had the standard issue perky TV babe asking Neil questions about the meaning of the album. He was grunting responses- so she said, mustering all of her brain power, so, it's like an anti-war message, right? Neil looked at her like "man, you must be more stoned then I am." Cracked me up.
      Everybody has a bad day.
Even cranky old guys. (present company excepted, of course).

Bill - One should enjoy being a cantankerous SOB, past a undefined age the right to be one has been earned.

Someone in the music reviewing side wrote of Neil's colleagues: Crosby (hilarious and sharp), Stills (a combative dick) and Nash (lovely and forthright).
