  • Rush - Moving Pictures - Lost and Found

While searching for a Santana Lp this morning, I found a Rush Lp that I had lost a while back. Somehow it had gotten mixed in with the Sade records. Rush - moving pictures.
This is an original Mercury copy from 1981 (CRC) no bar code cvr with 1C/1H stampers. Since I hadn't heard it in so long I decided to give it a spin. All I can say is wow, this sounds fantastic, much better than the Mercury Cd of same. The guitars and bass are clear and easily resolved. The drums are dynamic and the cymbals shimmer like they should. This really is Rush best album and hearing it like this makes all the difference. I know there are some Robert Ludwig mastered versions out there and also masterdisk, I wonder how those sound, Plus the recent 200g reissues might be good too.

I don't know which pressing is best, but there should be some discussion of this on the SHForum. Below is the one you have.

View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the 1981 Vinyl release of "Moving Pictures" on Discogs.

I think the members of Rush are awesome musicians and performers. Unfortunately I can't stand Geddy Lee's voice for long. I think I only have a couple of their songs on my iTunes - "Limelight" and "Closer to the Heart".

Even though I have the commercial CD, because the Lp sounds so good I decided to dub the Lp to CD for use in the car. After I burned it, I checked it on my home system for sound quality and I'll be damned, it comes very close to the Lp, better than the commercial CD. It doesn't make sense but that's what I'm hearing. Sucks having to make my own CD to get good CD sound, but at least I got there.
