We are now entering the phase when a lot of people from the era are going to move to that great place in the sky---
I hadn't listened to Pictures at an Exhibition since it was released. Ken played it for me last weekend- the UK pressing is insane and highly recommended.
All the more reason to cherish the recordings these folks made during their peak years.

I saw ELP at their height in '77 at MSG. They were a trip to watch. I loved Greg's voice. And Emerson was crazy. He had his piano turn 360 degrees and flip over while playing.

Agree on Pictures. And I think Greg Beron played a tape of Trilogy (?) at a show a while back that was outstanding.

I'll have to check what pressing (s) I have of Pictures. I think a normal and a MFSL release.

        The UK "Porky" floored me.

One of my favorite performers. Loved his voice. Also saw ELP in concert in the late 1970s (77?) in Rochester. One of the best concerts (performance and sound) I've ever been to.
One thing that surprised us was hte number of hard rock / metal fans at the show. We figured it would be all prog heads like us. They kept announcing that if anyone threw a firecracker or any other such devices the band wouldn't play. Someone did light a firecracker anyway and the band almost didn't come out. Delayed everything by about 20 minutes until they could find and remove the culprit.

I saw ELP several times. Once at the original California Jam and then in Louisville when they were touring with the 50 piece orchestra before they had to stop that tour due to expense.

Imagine being a member of two amazing and historic rock bands! I can't think of too many. Most artists go onto solo careers.

I know that "everyone says" that as we get older we shouldn't be surprised that people important to us when we were younger die, but 2016 seems to me to have been an amazingly, disproportionally bad year for prominent musicians. It has kind of burned me out emotionally, in addition to being a bummer

There was a thread on this at the SH Forums not long ago; it's somewhat surprising how many musicians have been in 2 or more very successful groups simultaneously. That's not meant to demean Greg Lake in any way, I have a huge amount of music featuring him on my collection.
