  • The Byrds - Greatest Hits (Speakers Corner reissue)......OUCH! My ears are bleeding!

I bought this some time ago and it was one of the first titles I played after having the Dynavector DV20x2L cartridge installed. It sounded really bright, but I attributed part of that to the cartridge not being broken in. I put it aside and forgot about it.

Well, the DV20x2L is fully broken in and the vinyl still sounds bright. In fact, it is unlistenable to my ears. I'm sure if I buried my head in quicksand I'd still be subjected to a hearing nails on a chalkboard. Brutal!

I'm usually a big fan of the Speakers Corner reissues, but man this should never have been released.

I know. I was really disappointed. But hey, it happens from time to time and i can't complain as it's rare for me.

Besides which what a great band! Look at all the people who passed through the band in their relatively short lived existence. Roger McGuinn. David Crosby. Gram Parsons. Chris Hillman. And the bands they went onto after. Many here were so focused on the "British Invasion" that they missed the impact that The Byrds and their melding of folk-rock had on the British bands!

Thx for the heads up, Johnny. Like you said, too bad. I have an old noisy copy, a clean reissue would've been nice.

Not to mention the 'jangly" guitar sound from the Rickenbacker guitars and tube amps.
