  • What Are Your Favorite Percussion Recordings?

    LP, CD or digital files.

Here were three suggestions from Mikey!

Here are mine. Amemiya's Summer Prayer might just be the best of the percussion albums I've ever heard. An absolute cartridge torture test.

Pictured are three percussion records you should own—especially if you feel like banging your head against the wall. One is an "oldie" Living Stereo novelty that's back in print, one was originally released in 1984 thanks to a grant from The National Endowment For the Arts (today an endangered species) reissued in the 1990s and one is a current release.

Thanks miles I'll look in my analog planet folder I have a over a hundred or more from them . Smoke and mirrors and a few others from them too. fast percussion is not a strong point on my setup I feel but maybe someday you can come over and let me know in complete honesty of course. Each of us should love our setups but be honest of its type of limitations.
Great post thanks for sharing. While I was at your place your setup seems lighting fast while still keeping the notes real with out crazy snap .
    analog stuff.

This is Winston Ma's first LP reissue under his Golden String label (GSLP 001) in 1992. This was a digital recording (1982) but all analog mastering by Doug Sax in this reissue. When Winston first visited my place, he was impressed when I pulled this off my shelf. This was a limited edition pressing and I have #0052.

Not totally a percussion LP but has an amazing drum solo. And D2D to boot. Long time reference of Harry Weisfeld's too. Haven't heard this in a while and sounded better than ever with the Colibri! Talk about slam!
