I was inspired by this thread to pull out some of my really old percussion music and listen again. This Mark Levinson recording was intended to have exceptional sound quality and it does. Musically it is a good example of Audiophile dreck, a waste of good vinyl and my time. Damn you Myles.

Oh crap. I just found another track on my demo disk called "Bass and Drum intro". Its better than all that I mentioned before and that is saying something....however, it was upsampled to dsd512. I think its from Nils Lufgren Live album.

Mickey Hart - Planet Drum due out on LP May 5, 2017... Per Music Direct: A longtime audiophile favorite, Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart's innovative Planet Drum has never sounded better. Cut from the original master tapes at Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab and on vinyl LP for the first time ever, this groundbreaking world music album brings the body, tonality, physicality, and spaciousness of Hart and company's percussive mastery into your room in full, three-dimensional detail. This is one of the most special analog releases you could ever hope to hear.

For Planet Drum, Hart convened some of the world's finest drum talents for a momentous collaboration that won the very first Grammy for World Music. He brought together Nigerian drum legend Babatunde Olatunji, Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, Nigerian talking drum ace Sikiru Adepoju, and Puerto Rico's master conguero Giovanni Hidalgo, among others. The cornerstone 1991 album spent an unprecedented 26 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard world music chart and continues to sell as a perennial favorite to this very day.

I am partial to this one as well, since I did the remaster for FIM.

Gamelan Semar Pegulingan (Nonesuch Explorer Series from 1972). This record claims to be the "first commercial recording of the Semar Pegulingan except for three 78 rpm disks from 1928." This album is stunning in its beauty, and you get the impression that modern composers like Reich, Riley, Glass and other minimalists were all inspired by this.

From my college days, though I'm sure a lot of my audio buddies have this too. Nonesuch recording Percussion Music - Works by Verese, Colgrass, Cowell, Saperstein , Oak. Great recording (mastered by Bob Ludwig).

A classic. The 7-1/2 ips 2-track commercially tape is also sensational. Wonder why BB&H never' received a 45 rpm treatment?

Another very rare and pricey Super Analogue recording. Very nice but Super Analogue's Super Percussion is on another level.

Haven't heard the LP but the tape-that only has 1/2 of what is on LP -- is a must-have. The LP is mastered by Bernie Grundman and gets the 45 rpm treatment.
