  • Welcome Movie SoundTrack Fans One and All

Great I get the first post in the SoundTracks forum, does that make me The Lord of the SoundTracks? One soundtrack to rule them all!

Streaming SoundTracks is as good as place as I know to start. A lot of info over their and the music they stream is pretty varied a little too much for me as I am not into show tunes.

For Sirius XM internet users only channel 750 Cinemagic. When they were on Directv, I used to listen to an hour long show hosted by DaveZ each Friday nite. Who interviewed movie composers and directors.
Not sure what they are like today, I miss them as it was a good way to hear new music.

    Slacker Radio:
Is my favorite free streaming site I have found, it has two channels not sure what the difference is, one is Movie Scores
Movie Scores on LiveOne. Movie Music gives you adventure, drama, romance and suspense! Thrill to the emotion conjured up by the sounds of the greatest cinematic masterpieces! Themes and scores from all the greats - John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and more!

    Movie Music is the other.
Movie Music on LiveOne. Movie Music gives you adventure, drama, romance and suspense! Thrill to the emotion conjured up by the sounds of the greatest cinematic masterpieces! Themes and scores from all the greats - John Williams, Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and more!

Pandora, itunes radio, seem kind of limited in their catalog of movie scores. I was curious how Tidal, Spotify, google music etc... stack up in comparison? Any comments, info on other streaming sites or general movie soundtrack info, please free to post a reply.

Slacker Radio has two streaming channels, The Champions Theme is dramatic music without the darker undertones of a lot of action movies. However it was removed from their website, I had to do a google search to find it.
The Champion's Theme on LiveOne. Capture the triumph of champions with the music of sport, heroic themes, and classical favorites. Epic orchestra music underscores the thrill of heroes battling for honor and glory.

Their Movie Scores Channel, I like a lot.

I don't have many OST LPs, but two that I do have and can recommend are Casino Royale (1967) and The Missouri Breaks. The bass on Missouri Breaks is awesome.

Missouri Breaks has been in rotation on my table for decades! But there are several versions/pressing and I can't remember the recommended one off the top of my head.

There's a few soundtracks on my recommended LP list here:

Latest version of my list. Reference Disc List, v.4 1.23.16 Classical: Albeniz: Suite Espanola, Burgos, Decca SXL 6355 Bach: Quodlibet, Telefunken SAWT 9457-A

        Good suggestions include:

        Emerald Forrest
The Mysterious Film World of Bernhard Herrmann
        They Live

Don't forget Glory and Gladiator on CD (the ORG LP was disappointing). Interstellar was also pretty good.
Kronos Sparta -> Trinity Phono -> Trinity Pre -> CH Precision A1 -> Magico S7s

Hmmm, first time I listened to Gladiator I was disappointed too. Then I listened to it again and thought it was much better. Maybe need to listen to the ORG release another time.

I did, twice. The Battle is a great piece that slowly builds momentum that ends in what should be an adrenaline rush where you want to throw a chair out the window and pick a fight with the f'ing school bully! The LP version inspires none of that IMO.

Hmmm... I relistened to side one and it brought back memories of Into the Labyrinth. Maybe a defective pressing?

Darn you guys for putting that Nicholson-in-a-dress image in my head - I can't stop laughing. Great sonics on the LP.

On vinyl, my favorite is probably E.T. the Extraterrestrial - the original one, not the doctored later edition.

I'm so with you on Herrmann. The man was God of movie music and especially with Cape Fear. Both film versions thank you very much. Wonder if there is another film ever remade that used the same music for both?? Hm..? Hey. Ennio Morricone's Once a Time in America stands out and Nino Rota's Juliet of the Spirits still kills me. And OK go ahead and throw rotten tomatoes but one of my faves of all time is Jerry Goldsmith's Patch of Blue
