    1961: Ray Charles is the big winner at the third annual Grammy Awards, winning four trophies, including the award for Best Male Vocal for "Georgia On My Mind."

    1966: Tom Jones enters a hospital to have his tonsils removed, though some who claim to have seen his tonsils since claim his real visit was for a nose job.

    1969: 5th Dimension's "Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In" hits #1.

    1971: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's LP Four Way Street is certified gold.

    1973: Stevie Wonder becomes one of the first rock stars to appear on PBS-TV's Sesame Street.

    1981: Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen marries actress Valerie Bertinelli. They would separate in 2001 and divorce in 2005. Their son, Wolfgang, goes on to become the bass player in his dad's group.

    1990: The Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center, located at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ, announces that four newly discovered asteroids, 4147-4150, will be named Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr.1993 : Actress Lisa Bonet files for divorce from Lenny Kravitz.

    1999: Shania Twain becomes the first female to sell 10 million copies each with back-to-back album releases: The Woman in Me and Come On Over.

    2008: Lou Reed marries his third wife, the conceptual artist Laurie Anderson. The couple, who had been together since the early '90s, decided to get married the previous day, so they met at a friend's house in Boulder, Colorado and held the ceremony in the backyard.
