I remember the first time I heard it. It was at a friend's who was about 5 years older than I and had a kick-ass system. He played the album on tape through either a TEAC or TASCAM (I think). Not sure if it was an original tape or that he dubbed the vinyl onto. Anyway, doesn't much matter as I was blown away and bought the LP the very next day.

while I don't remember the album in 73, ( I was still in middle school ), I do remember the single "money" being played heavily on the radio at that time. I rediscovered the album about 5 years later and have been playing it heavily ever since. I have many versions including the 1981 mfsl UHQR LP edition. I heard DSOTM on a really high end system about two weeks ago, and I was really impressed, its a fantastic recording, sonically and musically.

There is the story of the EMI executives who were listening to the DSOTM album through a high quality stereo system for the first time. They were shocked to hear the mutterings at the beginning of side 1 - didn't realize that there were f-bombs going off. Taught them the value of a hirez system! Larry

My 15 ips tape, then my Japan Toshiba Pro-Use LP is my favorite version. I don't have a first issue U.K. Version.

besides my 2 different 15ips 1/4" master dubs, which are both very good......if a little different from each other.......

i'll choose my UHQR MoFi pressing. it 'out multi-channels' the multi-channel versions. I still have a sealed regular original MoFi 33rpm pressing I've never opened. the early 2000's (2004?) stereo pressing pretty much sucks.

In comparison to your 15ips tape and UHQR the 30th Anniversary (2003) might suck, but that is somewhat misleading. Compared to other standard vinyl releases it holds up extremely well. Personally I think it's a toss-up between it and the regular MFSL release. Of the pressings I have, the UK Harvest (Blue outline triangle) with A3/B3 matrix is my preferred copy.
