My vote for the best classic rock album would go to "Who's Next" - it's great all the way through with driving rhythms and relevant lyrics. I first saw them on the tour supporting that album in the Denver Arena in 1971 while I was in college.
And I agree "Tommy" is their second best album.Thiel 7.2s, Manley NeoClassic 250s, Wadia 850, MIT Oracle V3 speaker cables, MIT MI-350 Oracle interconnects, Black Diamond Racing Shelves and Cones in a dedicated room with ASC Tube Traps, Room Tunes and 3 X 20 amp dedicated circuits.

Didn't see them in their first tour, but I was at this one in 1971 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. I was 14 at the time. The local Jewish Community Center Youth Group in Utica had a bus take us all down. We ended up with near perfectly located grass seats. Let's see - saw the Who, first time getting high from pot (though it was a contact high), first time felt a boob (though the girl blamed it on the contact high and said we probably shouldn't do that again), seems like it was a pretty good day overall!

The Who were innovative beyond their time and maybe never got proper credit the credit for their work.
Take one of my fave Who songs "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" released as a single in 1965. One of the earliest examples of guitar feedback. Oh yes, the only time Townshend and Daltrey composed together.
Who's Next was noted for Townshend's work on synthesizer. I saw somewhere that he wrote and recorded (supposedly Townshend is a darn good recording enginner too) the synth lines (remember this was at the beginning of synths in rock and pretty primitive) elsewhere. Townshend then brought the recordings into the studio where the rest of the group worked the songs around his work.Myles B. Astor, PhD, Administrator
