  • Tomorrow is 420 day - for Deadheads and others who have memories however vague

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_543854.html

We still have an annual celebration centered on "Hippie Hill" in Golden Gate Park (not far from the corner of Haight and Ashbury) every April 20th, where people light up! I came out to the Bay Area for grad school in 1967 - the Summer of Love.

I was 14 that Summer and had just started my journey into the music that would become such a mainstay in my life. I was still very much into sports and wouldn't even give girls a second look. By the Spring of the following year it all fell apart and I discovered MaryJane and some of her girlfriends. I was so curious at that age and probably a bit too rebellious as well, which resulted in about 2 years of experimentation. And then I met the love of my life and left it all behind in an instant, except for the music and my general socially liberated conscience. I did continue partaking in some weed for about 20 years on occasion (few times a year), and have rarely done it since. The last time was about 15 years ago. I'd rather have a cold beer or a nice glass of wine now.

I don't how much of the apocryphal information about 420 is true. I do know that if it was popularized by Deadheads, that didn't happen until the 1980's.

I started school at Boulder in 1967 and I remember my sister who was a senior in high school going to San Francisco to hang out with some folks in Golden Gate Park that summer. It was the following year my sister turned me on to pot.

        From the OP's link:

"The origin of 420 had nothing to do with a police code, though the San Rafael part was dead-on. A group of five San Rafael High School friends known as the Waldos — by virtue of their chosen hangout spot, a wall outside the school — coined the term in 1971.

The Waldos never envisioned that pot smokers the world over would celebrate each April 20 as a result of their foray into the Point Reyes forest. The day has managed to become something of a national holiday in the face of official condemnation. Officials at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of California, Santa Cruz, which boast two of the biggest “smokeouts,” pushed back in 2009 in typical fashion. “As another April 20 approaches, we are faced with concerns from students, parents, alumni, Regents, and community members about a repeat of last year’s 4/20 ‘event,’” wrote Boulder’s chancellor in a letter to students. “On April 20, 2009, we hope that you will choose not to participate in unlawful activity that debases the reputation of your University and degree, and will encourage your fellow Buffs to act with pride and remember who they really are.”

As a Buff I encourage folks to follow the law (recreational pot is now legal in Colorado and California).

Soon to be legal! I was in Vancouver over the weekend, and I saw a bunch of pot shops. I thought that they had legalized pot like Washington has.

Now for the real audiophile question. When toking while listening, what level upgrade to your system do you hear? or does it matter? Larry

I hear at least a 50% upgrade on my enjoyment of the music.

Reminds me of a question once asked about Auntie Enid. Question. Do you really believe she hears that? Answer. Yes, but what is she on? She was certainly right on some things but shining your flashlight on Magnepan panels made them sound brighter stretched the limits of one's incredubility

We used to not care about quality so much in audiophile terms with GD Bootlegs. We listened to some pretty awful cassette tapes back in the day. Still enjoyed them plenty.

I know about that trip! There was a picture of him at age 100, he looked stoned out of his gourd.
I can image the conversation. So, what do you do?
