  • Whiter Shade of Pale Turns 50

I'm even lucky enough to have picked up the 12-inch Classic EP of Whiter Shade of Pale.
To this day, fans still debate the meaning of the song. But half a century after its release, it remains one of the most popular of all-time.

A classic......absolute classic! Still the definitive version, although Annie Lennox' interpretation is wonderful in its own right!

I was fortunate to see Procol Harum play Whiter Shade of Pale around 1973 at the Paramount in Seattle (44 years ago). It was festival seating if I recall and there was a distinct party atmosphere (cannabis)... Good times. Can't remember if they were touring earlier than that in the US...

One of my all time favorite groups. It was rare to find a band with two classilcally trained keyboard players. No better librettist than co-founder Keith Reed. A Robin Trower guitar solo is unmistakable - try any tune on Broken Barricades.
